Meet Robby Gibbons,
Owner of Float to Fly

Robby Gibbons is a native Texan who grew up swimming in the local river and lakes around central Texas. Moving to California after graduating with a BA in Theater Performance from Oklahoma City University, he worked at a summer camp the first year of living in LA. This reignited his love of the outdoors and water activities. Since 2016, Robby has consistently taught students from 6 months to 91 years old how to survive or swim in the water. Married to his truly awesome and beautiful wife since 2016, they have 2 children who both enjoy the water as much as he does!

we believe...

In the immortal words of Whitney Houston,

the children are our future.

Taking a one on one approach, with the priority on establishing a connection based on trust and confidence, we introduce the skills necessary for survival in a water environment.

Each child is different, and while the skills of swimming and water safety are uniform, the implementation needs to be specialized to each child. With patience, positivity, and adapting to each student, we grow their swimming abilities and develop their self-confidence to try new things, and work hard to accomplish things they’ve never done before.

What sets us apart

the float to fly method

Connection

Connection is central to everything else. We work with any age from 12 months to adult. We feel that no matter the age, connecting emotionally is the best way to grow a healthy learning environment. We want to help each student grow in the best way possible. Each person responds differently to different styles of instruction and coaching. We are constantly observing and learning about each student, taking notes on each lesson so that we can best serve the individual.

Consistency

You will have the same instructor for the duration of your lessons. This is to promote a sense of safety and routine. Although all instructors are educated in the program we teach, we strive for trust between the client and the instructor. If there is ever a problem, or you do not feel the fit is the right one, we will work with you to the best of our ability to find the optimal situation.

Comfort

We are a mobile agency. We travel to each client. You can swim in the comfort of your own pool, or the community pool nearest you. Either way, you don’t have to come to a strange new environment and overcome the uncomfortableness of the unfamiliar.

Heard Around The Pool

Allie G.

Coach Robby taught our 1.5 year old how to be comfortable in the water, how to hold on to the side of the pool and"crabby walk" to where he could climb out, how to put his face in the water, and how to float on his back. He is very fun, patient, and clear. I have recommend him to our friends and will continue to do so! Thanks Coach Robby!

Brea A.

Robby is a gifted, patient and experienced teacher that we can’t say enough good things about. So glad we took the advice of our friends and gave him a call! He made learning how to swim fun for my daughter and even now, two years later, she asks when she can “be go back and swim with Mr. Robby” because she enjoyed it so much. Thanks for helping her go from a little one who was tentative in the water without her floaties, to a girl who loves swimming! We appreciate you!

AMANDA W.

Our daughter started private swim lessons with Robby when she was 2 and she learned so much! She started out being scared to put her face in the water and didn’t want to blow bubbles, but Robby was so patient with her and helped her get over her fears in a way that made her feel strong and confident! He makes every lesson fun, and has phrases that are easy for them to remember what they need to do. My daughter LOVES the water now and it started with Coach Robby!
